National Recovery Month: Recovery Benefits Everyone

September marks the 22nd annual National Recovery Month, which spreads the message that treatment for substance abuse is effective, recovery is possible, and that all individuals have the fundamental and inherent value to be accepted and treated with respect, dignity, and worth. This month’s theme is Recovery Benefits Everyone emphasizing that when people overcome the disease of addiction their family, friends, coworkers, and community benefit.

Join us this month in spreading awareness of National Recovery Month and help us reduce the stigma of substance abuse. View and share our Recovery Benefits Everyone infographic that explains some of the facts and figures of substance abuse and how Meta House is working toward helping women reclaim their lives and rebuild their families.

Recovery, a lifelong process, is possible when effective treatment is accessible for those who need it. Recent studies suggest that 76% of Americans know someone who has struggled with the disease of addiction. This Recovery Month, please consider reaching out to someone you know who is living in recovery and encourage them in their journey.

To help spread the message that Recovery Benefits Everyone you can follow us on Twitter and retweet our messages throughout the month of September and/or “Like” us on Facebook to view our updates and share them on your own Facebook wall.

Together we can spread the message that Recovery Benefits Everyone and show the change being made in our community when a woman receives the help she needs to overcome the disease of addiction, reclaim her life, and rebuild her family!

Meta Moments: Collaborative Solutions to Preserving Families

Thursday, October 6, 2011
12:00 – 1:00 PM

Studies show that 7 out of 10 cases of child abuse/neglect are caused or exacerbated by substance abuse. Meta House is helping through the Families Come First pilot project, which is a program in collaboration with the Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare and the Milwaukee County Children’s Court that keeps children safely with their mothers who struggle with the disease of drug or alcohol addiction.

In the first year of this pilot project 305 mothers were referred to this program. In the Families Come First pilot project families are offered the opportunity to enter Meta House where they receive treatment that helps mothers overcome their addictions, increase their capacity to provide for their families. At Meta Moments, Collaborative Solutions to Preserving Families, learn how Meta House helps mothers improve their lives and the lives of their children, and hear from a woman who has been successful in the program.
