Meta House clients and mosaic of logo
The mosaic was created by women at Meta House throughout the month of March with local artist Ann Wydeven. This was made possible through the ‘Artists Working with Homeless Women’ project funded by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation. The mosaic now hangs in the Meta House office.

Meta House is holding Milwaukee’s first Tweetathon!

All day on April 16th, @MetaHouse will be using twitter to send out messages about our mission and the happenings during the A Day for Meta House breakfast and lunch (using the hashtag #Day4MH). We will receive a $1 donation from Manpower (up to $1500) for each retweet, so please join us on twitter to multiply the power of our online fundraising on April 16th!

At the end of the day, we will finish our celebration of A Day for Meta House with a Tweetup (that’s a real-life gathering of people who use twitter) from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at iPic Entertainment, located in Bayshore Town Center. Attendees will enjoy free appetizers and sodas, $1 bowling, prizes, a silent auction, and a fun evening! RSVP here for this event.

Meta House was just on The Morning Blend on TMJ4 this Monday, speaking about our work and upcoming events. Watch our segment here!

Donor Spotlight

Charlie and Jean Gorham learned of Meta House about ten years ago through Step Industries, which provides employment for some of the women living at Meta House. Their familiarity with the ripple effects of addiction has led them to be long-term supporters of Meta House.

The Gorhams
Meta House donors Charlie and Jean Gorham.

Charlie explained, “Family and friends sometimes enable the user’s problems. It can become a financial and emotional strain on all concerned. When an addict is in recovery and becomes a useful and contributing member of society, (e.g. living independently, holding a job, finding sober friends) then the burden on family, friends, co-workers and community is lifted.”

Meta House thanks them for their dedication, and agrees with Charlie that, “Meta House needs all the support that it can gather.”

Here are some examples of how your donations help:

  • $1 per week (or $52) could buy items for a welcome basket given to a new residential client.
  • $10 could buy an hour of child care for a woman in day treatment.
  • $25 could cover the expense of a day of residential treatment for one woman.
  • $100 could fund General Education Diploma (GED) classes for one woman.
  • $250 could buy food for one woman in residential treatment for a month.
  • $1,000 could fund transportation for 10 women for 60 days.
